Agusta, now merged into Leonardo, was a helicopter manufacturer based in Northern Italy that was well-known for their various light, utility, and licensed rotorcraft models. Agusta was first established in 1923, though it was not until 1952 that the company entered the helicopter manufacturing sector. Their first produced helicopters were Bell models manufactured under license, and they later introduced models from Sikorsky, Boeing, and McDonnell Douglas as well. Over the years, Agusta also introduced some of their own models to their offerings, examples of notable early designs being the Agusta A.101 and A.106. The 1970s Agusta A109 is considered the biggest success of the company, that of which is a commercial and military twin turbine helicopter.

In 2000, Agusta was merged with Westland Helicopters due to an agreement reached by their respective parent companies, Finmeccanica and GKN plc. The newly formed company, AgustaWestland, then continued as a helicopter manufacturer and wholly owned subsidiary of Leonardo S.p.A.. After 16 years of continued development of rotorcraft, joint ventures, and expansion, Finmecannica, as Leonardo, merged AgustaWestland into themselves with the result of the company becoming a division of the parent. As of the present, various Agusta and AgustaWestland models continue to be manufactured by Leonardo.
